The National Registry of home caregivers requires a 200-hour course that includes first aid; outside the registry (private geriatric homes, agencies, private employers) a standalone first-aid/CPR certificate is valued.

A recognized, up-to-date first-aid certificate is the way to meet this requirement; it is in addition to the caregiver's occupational training and must be renewed periodically.
