In health care, maintaining high standards of care is essential to protect the public. For nursing staff, mastering CPR and first aid is a professional expectation and, in hospitals, an employer requirement; for support staff and elderly caregivers, it is a valued condition to work. Here is what the rules expect for your role — and how recognized, up-to-date, documented training supports it.

In Argentina, nursing practice requires national licensure (Ministry of Health, RUPS registry) and, depending on the jurisdiction, registration with provincial colleges or councils. Nursing law obliges the employer to guarantee ongoing training of nursing personnel, so keeping competencies current and being able to act in an emergency is part of practice.

Within this framework, basic life support and CPR are expected competencies and, especially in public hospitals, required and guaranteed by the employer. There is, however, no national credit-based recertification tied to licensure: updating is sustained through institutional and employer channels.

There is no national continuing-education credit requirement to practise: recertification is voluntary and province/college-dependent. The employer — especially public hospitals — guarantees and requires training, including CPR.

For home-based elderly care, the National Registry of home caregivers requires a 200-hour course that includes first aid. Outside that registry — private geriatric homes, agencies, private employers — the occupation is unregulated and a recognized standalone first-aid and CPR certificate, added to caregiver training, is valued as a current, verifiable credential to be renewed.
